Description
Our Eighth release of Black Label Somerset Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky was produced from a medium spirit produced from a mix of UK peated malt, as well as Australian caramalt, biscuit malt and pale malt that was matured in a 50L French oak ex-Apera (Australian fortified wine) cask for 3 years and 9 months.
Bottled at 49.2% – This whisky is rich and robust but also nuanced and balanced. Up front subtle fermentation driven fruity characteristics fade into a blend of malt and oak before the peat and the cask fully take over to provide a rich fruity finish carried by lingering peat smoke.
Keeping with recent trends the angels have hit us pretty hard and taken more than their fair share of this release with this one and there are limited bottles in this release. As with all of our black label whiskies this release comes with a full document of provenance detailing every step of the whiskies production from brewing to maturation.
If you’ve read our blog about producing our first release of single malt whisky (click here if you haven’t) you’ll know that as much as a whisky can do it told the story of how we got to where we are today. We think this whisky is a perfect continuation of that story, and a great example of what not following the crowd can bring to the table.
